About This Course
This blended course teach practical approaches for university faculty to innovate, incorporate teaching and student use of AI tools, and train students in the ethical, critical, and effective use of AI tools. The participants will learn several ways to integrate student use of AI tools in their own university courses. They will also learn how to use AI tools to help themselves in instructional design instructive material generation, student tutoring and improving the teaching of their courses.
The workshop participants will leave the workshop: 1. Aware of the need and urgency to implement training plans for university teaching staff and students in AI literacy. 2. Knowing the AI competency framework for teachers recommended by UNESCO. 3. Familiar with the main free generative AI tools available for teaching and learning.4. Fully aware of the possibilities for using these tools in various aspects of teaching: instructional design, consulting on best practices in teaching specific disciplines, creating instructive materials, creating chatbots for expert student tutoring, creating conceptual inventories and questions for assessing comprehension, and automatic analysis of student responses. 5. Guided on how to design activities and tasks for students to practise digital skills and critical thinking in their out-of-class time by using various Gen AI tools. 6. Informed of proven strategies they can use to help university students critically evaluate and verify the content generated by GAI tools against the original literature. 7. Having compared and discussed with colleagues from related disciplines on the pedagogical applications of AI tools and activities in their own areas of university teaching. 8. Having shared examples of the implementation of these strategies for incorporating student activities with AIG tools in university teaching in different disciplines.
In advance to the preconference workshop the organizers will set up an online environment with videos, instructive resources and exercises for the participants. The participants will learn with the different resources about use of Gen AI tools in university teaching. These resources will include pdfs about different pedagogical frameworks in which student activities with Gen AI can be incorporated in university teaching. There will be also resources on the kind of AI training will need university teachers and students, how to learn to explore and to exploit the frontier of AI fallibility in our own discipline, how to train students in critical thinking, how to classify course activities at different levels of allowed AI use with Artificial Intelligence Assessment Scales.
